Is it Ignorance of Law or Lack of Justice?

It is trite that whoever wants peace from a neighbour must be just to that person. This has not been appreciated by many people in the falling pearl of Africa. This is a drop of an idea from my understanding but rather based on experience. Many people who don’t respect the law in this growing democracy have critiqued the police for disrespecting their rights. It is clear that while exercising your own rights be cautious not to violate those of others. I personally think that there is need for mutual understanding between the police and those that are at logger heads with it. Fighting one another will instead put lives of many at stake. There is a lot of mistrust for the judiciary and the police among the citizens. This has mainly been attributed to allegations that the organs no longer dispense justice but rather miscarry it. These have also been accused for being corrupt and unjust; it is these allegations that have forced many to carry out mob justice because they believe will not have remedy in the organs in charge of providing justice. This has put lives of many who fall captive of the aggrieved mobs in danger. I personally do not believe that the police and judiciary have not done their work but rather there is lack of communication to the people. Many people are ignorant about the whole process of provision of justice; they do not know that a suspect has gotten a right to be given bail/bond with costs and the other processes that follow. This has highly led to the mistrust for the police and judiciary hence corruption blamed on the organs. At times the injustice blamed on the police and the judiciary is caused by we people in society. We fail to report cases of wrong character to the authorities in time and if reported fear to testify in court as witness to the allegations. How do you expect the police and the judiciary to dispense justice yet you are not helping them out; the process of instituting justice is of collective responsibility. My humble appeal to the government is to try as much as possible to educate the people about the Law and this will surely help out in some of the problems that we are facing in the country today.
